Week 8: Leonora Carrington (British-Mexican, 1917-2011)

Surrealist painter and novelist she has often been overlooked in the history of 20^th century western art due to her gender. Revaluation of her work has introduced a much-needed counterpoint to the male viewpoint particularly in relation to female sexuality. Much of her work is autobiographically and painted in a meticulous style.
