Join me for a 3 day Art History Trip to Antwerp and Ghent, two cities known for their rich history of art and where many important artists lived and worked. The collections in the impressive museums and churches today reflect this, with so many important works from the Medieval period to the present day.

Provisional Itinerary

Day 1- Ghent

Meet 9 am at Antwerp Ceentral Station for train to Ghent (approx.. 1hr)

Museum of fine Arts Ghent

The museum's collection consists of some 9000 artworks, dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century

Saint Bavo's Cathedral

An impressive Gothic Cathedral that houses incredible works of art including the famous Ghent Altarpiece.

Guided walk through the old town

Day 2 – Antwerp

Meet at Antwerp Cathedral 9:30 am

Cathedral of Our Lady

It contains a number of significant works by the Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, as well as paintings by artists such as Otto van Veen, Jacob de Backer and Marten de Vos.

KMSKA - Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp

A beautiful collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings from the fourteenth to the twentieth centuries. This collection is representative of the artistic production and the taste of art enthusiasts in Antwerp, Belgium and the Northern and Southern Netherlands since the 15th century.

Guided walk through the old town

Saint Paul's Church

It holds paintings by Antwerp's leading artists Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Jacob Jordaens as well as abundant sculpture and church furniture crafted by leading Antwerp sculptors such as Artus Quellinus the Elder, Pieter Verbrugghen I, Jan Pieter van Baurscheit de Elder, Jan Claudius de Cock and Andries Colyns de Nole.

Day 3 – Antwerp

Meet at Antwerp Cathedral 9:30 am

Plantin-Moretus Museum

The Plantin-Moretus family began their printing office in the 16th century. 400 years on, our museum is still kept in the original house and workshops.

Museum Mayer van den Bergh

The collection of the art dealer and collector Fritz Mayer van den Bergh (1858–1901). The major works are from the Gothic and Renaissance period in the Netherlands and Belgium, including paintings by Pieter Brueghel the Elder.

Rubenshuis

The Rubenshuis is the former home and workshop of Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) in Antwerp.

Snijders&Rockox House

A museum located in two neighbouring townhouses formerly owned by the artist Frans Snyders (1579–1657) and the mayor Nicolaas Rockox (1560–1640). It showcases a collection of 16th and 17th century Flemish art.

Refunds will only be given if I cancel the trip or for extenuating circumstances and will not cover your flights and accommodation.

T&C: Please pay in full by April 1^st 2025 after which time there will be no refund (please have your own travel insurance).

If I cancel the trip there will be a full refund.

If you cancel before April 1^st 2025 you will receive a full refund.

N.B. Please do not book any non-refundable accommodation etc before confirmation on April 1^st as I will need a minimum number of travelers to run the trip.

There will be plenty of breaks throughout each day.

We will use public transport, taxis and/or tourist bus for long distances, shorter distances will be on foot, no more than 30 minutes walking at a time.
