The Art of the Northern Renaissance Part 1 (Part 2 will be in Spring 2021)

This 10-week course will trace the developments in art in the North of Europe. The focus will be on painting and sculpture with some consideration of architectural trends. Some of the artists to be discussed are Jan van Eyck, Roger van der Weyden, Hugo van der Goes and Claus Sluter. A variety of mediums will be studied from illuminated manuscripts to metal work to oil painting. The last class will be an exploration of relevant works in Irish Collections.
