Description: This era of American art from 1950 to 1990 could be considered a Golden age, it certainly sees the USA take centre stage in the development of many 20^th century art movements from abstraction, conceptualism, performance, identity politics, and the rise of postmodern aesthetics. This course explores key movements, artists, and socio-political contexts shaping American art from the post-WWII period to the end of the Cold War. Artists to be discussed include: Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Carolee Schneemann, Agnes Martin, Sol LeWitt, Judy Chicago, Yoko Ono, Jeff Koons, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring
